CTFC’s mission is to promote the modernisation and the competitivity of the forest sector, the rural development and the sustainable management of the natural environment by means of research, technology and knowledge transfer to the society.

CTFC was established in 1996 as a consortium of public entities comprising the Center for Integral Rural Development of Catalonia (CEDRICAT) the University of Lleida (UdL), the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, the Government of Catalonia, the Province Council of Lleida and the County Council of Solsonès.

The Forest Harvesting and Biomass Department (AFIB) of the CTFC was established in 2005 and is the active, technical part of CTFC involved in the project Proforbiomed.

The AFIB Dept. has developed expertise in market studies of wood and forest products, territorial biomass avality studies, quality assurance and assessment for solid biofuels and traceability, stakeholder’s networking and dynamizing, and companies’ consultancy.

AFIB perceives Proforbiomed as an excellent opportunity for promoting the use of forest biomass for energy in a sustainable way, and this possibility of performing pilot actions throughout the Mediterranean basin will permit an important increase of the pool of knowledge which is needed for the sustainable development of the forest bioenergy. AFIB is in close contact to Catalan entrepreneurs and Proforbiomed will provide with answers and support for these important actors of the value chain.
